Remote online notarization (RON) is a process that allows borrowers, buyers, and sellers to have closing documents legally notarized without being physically present with a notary public. The RON process takes place entirely online using a secure online platform that satisfies the requirements set forth in NY Executive Law 135-c.

Here's how RON works:

  1. Once all closing documents are uploaded into the secure platform, email invitations are issued to all participants who will be required to sign

  2. At the start of the RON session, all signers must present their identification (either state-issued driver licenses or passports) and verify their identity through knowledge-based authentication questions or by using biometrics

  3. RON sessions must be conducted on either a laptop or desktop computer with a camera, microphone, and speakers - smartphones are prohibited

  4. Once verified, the signers connect live with our team, all of whom are commissioned by the NYS Department of State to conduct remote online notarizations

  5. All closing documents are signed while our team witnesses via video

  6. Lenders, realtors, family, and friends may observe the session remotely

  7. Our team then adds their electronic signatures and seals to the documents to finish the session

  8. When complete, copies of all signed documents are emailed to the parties, including lenders and title agents
